On the Web (recommended)
- If your pet does not have a profile click My Pets and create a profile for your pet
- Click Lost A Pet in the top middle of the screen
- Click Select a Pet to choose from your existing list of pets
- Click the Photo of your pet that is lost
- Type in the Zip Code of where you lost your pet or Drag the Pin to the location, then click Next located under the map
- Next you will Add Additional Details about your missing pet as well as your Contact Information - click Next to generate the Lost Poster
- Click Search. A list of closest possible matches will display first. If you scroll down, you will also see pets found in your area.
- Click on the photo of the Possible Match to view a description of the animal. If you think this is your pet, click Contact to view the contact information of where your dog/cat may be.
- We recommending Making Contact by all possible methods (phone, email etc.)
On the App
- Tap Report! in the bottom middle of the screen
- Click Lost
- If the dog/cat already has a profile, click the Report Lost link on the profile for the dog/cat that is missing
- If the dog/cat does not already have a profile, click the + in the top right corner to create a new profile
The following steps are the same on the app and the web.
Location
- Identify the location the animal was lost from by clicking on or touching the Pin to move it
- Use the + and / or - zoom controls in the bottom right to see more or less of the map
- Click on or touch any part of the map to move it to a different location to view
- Click Next in the top right corner
Enter details
- Email Address: Your email address will default based on your username for your account - change this if needed
- Date you lost this pet: Enter the actual date the dog/cat went missing - click/tap to change
- Reward: If there is a reward, enter the amount or the word 'Yes'
- Friendly?: Yes or No
- Vaccinated?: Yes or No
- Microchipped?: Yes or No
- About: Enter any additional information that will help (distinguishing features, on medication, collar description, date/time last seen, temperament with strangers, etc.)
- Click Next in the top right corner - the photo will be auto scanned and your first search results will display
Search
- Based on a scan of the photo, Possible Matches posted by other Finding Rover members in the area will display
- Remember to scroll down and click on Finding Rover Partner pages in the area to see if they have your dog/cat
- Each time a Finding Rover Partner page is accessed another scan is done on your photo that will pull Possible Matches from within that organization
Matches
- Click on the photo of the Possible Match to open the profile
- Click Match? to link the records together FIRST
- Click Create Match (this will now show on your Home page)
- The Possible Match record will display at the bottom of the screen (scroll down)
- This will display the Possible Match record on the owner's, finder's, or partner's Home page that they will see the next time they access their account
Make Contact
We recommend that both methods of connecting are used
- Click Email to contact through YOUR email service (Outlook, Gmail, etc.)
- Enter a message in the Message box at the bottom and click/tap Send
